Same Boat: Exploring Empathy and Unity with Country Music

In this lesson, students explore the ideas of empathy and unity by examining Country music’s response to the September 11th attacks and the COVID-19 pandemic. Students view primary source media and listen to songs written in response to both events, which became anthems for empathy and unity in the United States. The lesson concludes with students writing their own song about unity.
