This Is Me: Designing a Personal Logo

How can color, shape, and symbol communicate who we are without words?

Mastery Objective:

• Students will be able to express their personal identity through visual design by creating a personal logo that strategically combines color harmony principles and symbolic meaning.

Day 1 - Students will:

• Listen to “This Is Me” by Keala Settle
• Recognize the importance of self-expression
• Explain ways they can showcase their self-expression

Day 2 - Students will:

• Listen to “Express Yourself” by Charles Wright
• Identify how organizations and people use logos
• Explore how logos build relationships with fans and organizations or artists

Day 3 - Students will:

• Listen to “Masterpiece” by Jazmine Sullivan
• Define color theory
• Analyze color wheels and color harmony are used to make choices in art and design

Day 4 - Students will:

• Listen to “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen
• Define symbols
• Identify the variety of meanings different symbols may have

Arts-Based Activity - Students will:

• Reflect on how they can express themselves and how they want others to perceive them
• Design a personal logo by combining what they learned about color harmony and symbols

In this lesson, students will recognize the importance of self-expression and explore ways to showcase it through visual design. They will identify how organizations and people use logos to build relationships with audiences, then define color theory and analyze how color harmony guides artistic choices. Students will also define symbols and examine their varied meanings across different contexts. Finally, they will synthesize this learning by designing a personal logo that demonstrates their understanding of color theory and symbolism while expressing their authentic identity.
